Group Presentations May 2nd

Group 1: Should College Athletes be paid? By Andrew, Francisco and Ivan

+        Good background information

+        Good connection related it back to self and Johnny Manziel.

+        Good arguments for why athletes should get paid – talked about the way things work as for academics.

-   Sometimes read off of slide

+        Good arguments for and against athletes getting paid

+        When it came down to arguing the points – everyone spoke about it.

+        Good multimodal aspects to presentation with Shabazz interview to back up what you were saying about getting compensation money for food.

+        Liked the idea about not getting paid but getting food and nutrition instead.

+        Good arguments compared to the other groups presentation on the same topic.

How did you guys feel about doing the same topic as the other group?

How did you guys want to make it different from theirs?

Group 2: Violent Video Games by Pavel, David, and Forrest

+        Liked the use of multimodality aspect in your presentation with the video/interview, charts and diagram

+        Had a lot of different types of research to back up what you were saying.

+        Good arguments for both sides

+        Like how they verbally cited their sources in their presentation.

-   They had good points for both sides that I forgot what side they were arguing for.

Group Presentations April 30th

Group 1: The Truth behind Diets by Irania, Randee and Jessica

My group

Group 2: Space Exploration by Blake, Daniel, and Doyle

+        Good voice projection and volume

+        Interesting topic

+        Like how the person who had the original topic talked a lot about the history.

+        Liked how it was clearly stated the different viewpoints in the presentation (gov’t vs. private companies)

+        A lot of background information and supporting details on both sides for gov’t rule and private company rule

+        Related to the class with watching certain movies

+        People know when they were supposed to go and didn’t read off the slides/screens.

+        Good solution to combine the ideals of both

Group 3: Hypocrisy is a Whore by Sal, Bryan, and Carlo

-   Read off of slides too much

+        Good division of talking by determination of the work they put in.

+        Good way to connect with audience with Hannah Montana => dancing on Robin Thicke, the movie Wolf on Wall Street, and a scenario from South Park.

+/-   Took the idea of prostitution o how people can relate on a daily bases like paying for you girlfriend – paying for sex.

-   Got off topic sometimes

-   I personally got lost as to what they were arguing until the end. As well as what the problem and question was.

+        Talked from the point of view from the prostitute (possibly why they’re were out there in the first place, no one knows their backstory)

-   Started running out of time, and felt rushed towards the end.

-   Didn’t end all that strong.

Group 1: Altered State of Legality by Spencer, Thai and Melissa
+  Had a lot of background information
-   Very little verbal citations when presenting
+  Great use of charts and pictures/visuals
-  Seemed like at certain points during the presentation, people didn’t know exactly what they were talking about and read off the slides or when it was their turn they would look at each other for confirmation.
-  Wasn’t too sure when to go on to the next slide.
+  Good volume (projection of voice)
+  Showed different viewpoints on their topic.
+  Good connection with audience in bringing everyone together to think about how when we took the drugs and alcohol class in the beginning of the spring semester.
+  Good conclusion: how you tied everything together. Very strong.
For the arrests, how much does a person have to have in their possession to get arrested?
What are some of the negative effects of the use of marijuana?

Group 2: Show Me the Money by Dana, Thor, Ben and JB
-   Wasn’t too sure who was to go next during the presentation. Some read off of the slides
+  But got it down as the presentation went on
-   In the beginning there was no verbal citation
+  but towards the end started to verbally cite
+   Good background information – felt that those who are college student athletes were smart to talk about their own personal experience with the topic and talking about what they know.
-   There was a lot of text on the slides.
+   Good visuals and explaining the pictures
Money distribution from who to the athlete(s)?
+  Like the use of offering different modes of changes that can be made with the NCAA
+ For the most part – very good volume and voice projection
+  Good arguments for and against.
How would college student-athletes getting paid change the dynamic of school and playing in prioritization?
How about for those who get red-shirted, do they get paid the same as the starters?

Group 3: Fast Food in America by Matt, Jose and Brett
-  In the beginning it seemed like they didn’t know who was saying what. But got it down as the presentation went on.
+  Like how there’s not all text on the slides and there were pictures
+  Good voice projection
+  verbally cited quotes or statistics from the articles
+  Good use of humor throughout the presentation
+  Good job connecting to the audience because this topic is very relatable because everyone likes or eats fast food (plus the interaction and example with Doyle).
+  Presented different point of views
+ Liked how you ended it with your view points on the subject.
