Everyday Writer "Research" and "Evaluating Sources"

A person should know what the topic of the assignment is enable to have good research. Things to consider when doing research is the intended audience, the purpose of the assignment and you position on the topic. You should plan what types of sources would be most helpful to your point of view on the topic/assignment. A person should keep notes where they got the sources, a brief summary of it and the type of source it is to make sure it’s crucial to the assignment or if you want one source over another. In your research it’s important to understand the different kinds of sources such as books, journal articles, databases, websites, government documents, reference works and so on. It’s important to know what type of information you will get out of your sources and how credible it is as well. Be careful when looking up sources on the internet compared to the school’s library database where you know it’s credible and professional. Interviewing is a great first-hand information in which many people can relate to because it is everyday people. When reading over your sources, you want to look at the author’s point of view in the article or book and it you can use the information in your favor or can omit certain things. Make sure that that your sources do not counter argue your point of view. Synthesize or combine ideas from your own point of view and your sources to convey what your opinion is or complete the assignment.

Response Paper #2

Last August I went to Waikiki, Hawaii with my aunt for a graduation present. We stayed at Stay Waikiki in downtown Waikiki. It was a ten minute walk to the beach and around every corner was a place to eat, shop or ABC store. The hotel was fairly small and very simple. My aunt wanted to save up as much money as possible wherever we could so we could just relax and eat and tan all we wanted for the five days we were there. Inside of our room was typical two twin beds, a nightstand on each side, a traditional island painting on the wall and a flat screen TV sitting on the dresser. The exterior around the hotel was beautiful. There was clear blue skies, plenty of people walking around in sun dresses, bathing suits and the occasional aloha from locals.

My aunt took me to Hawaii because I haven’t been since I was seven but I went to Maui not Oahu. This trip was my graduation present as she took my other two siblings to places for their graduation as well. I believe my aunt favors me because I got Hawaii while my brother got Disneyland and my sister got San Diego.

There were some locals that lived there in Waikiki, but in downtown, there were a lot of hotels to tourists. Many people know about the beautiful beaches, the hula dancers and the flea markets, and Waikiki had all of that.

When I was in Waikiki, I did a lot of eating, such as fruit, especially the pineapple (I love fruit). I have not eaten another piece of pineapple since my trip because the pineapple was so good that no other pineapple, I believe can compare. Also, I ate burgers, French toast, beef skewers, rice, edename, and I am sure many other things that I cannot remember. I saw every day the ocean and the sun. When I got back home I was so tan, I came back four to five shades darker than what a Chinese girl’s skin color is supposed to be.

I would love to go back because it was so relaxing and I love warm weather. It was a great time to relax before coming to college and I got the time to really enjoy doing nothing because back at home I’m always doing something. When I was in Waikiki, time didn’t seem to matter and my aunt and I didn’t have a schedule or anything. I would love love love to go back to Waikiki or any island for that matter.

If I got a free ticket to go anywhere in the world I wouldn’t be the one to use it. I would give it to someone who’s dying wish is to go somewhere they’ve never been because sooner or later in my life I can go again to Hawaii and for someone who may be dying of cancer or was in a tragic accident that left them in some drastic measures then I’d love to give my free ticket to someone who really needs it.
